Charles Stewart

Before attending law school, Charles worked in the legal field for many years both as a paralegal and as the Utah State Bar's Pro Bono Director. Charles is well known in the legal community by both criminal and civil lawyers. During his time working in the legal field, he has gained valuable experience dealing with judges, lawyers, administrators, and clients. He has experience in handling cases involving social security as well as criminal and DUI defense. From 2000-2004 Charles was an adjunct faculty member at Salt Lake Community College teaching and supervising numerous paralegal courses and clinics. He returned to school and earned his law degree from Whittier College of Law in 2008. He is a proud member of the Utah State Bar, Salt Lake County Bar, Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives and has never received a bar complaint. For the past two years, Charles has worked with our firm conducting extensive writing and research in the areas of DUI and criminal defense. It was Charles's hard work and research that assisted the firm in arguing against the Utah Drivers License Division's abrupt change in policy in 2007 that prohibited defense attorneys from cross examining officers at DUI administrative hearings. In conjunction with Jason Schatz, they filed dozens of Administrative Appeals in the District Courts, resulting in numerous District Court rulings that found the procedure a Due Process violation, ultimately resulting in the reinstatement of cross examination at all DUI administrative hearings across the State. Charles has also assisted in drafting briefs and motions attacking the State's breath testing program, which is still being litigated today. Charles is the newest member of the firm but brings with him a vast array of legal experience. He has already proven to be a very effective defense attorney for his clients.
